Jangling Alarms

Today started with a jolt when an alarm went in some nearby building and clanged away for ages.  We haven't been treated to that delight for quite some time.  It is usually car alarms, but either way it is a rude way to break into a pre-dawn Sunday morning.  It had gone off again 3 more times in the next couple of hours.  Apart from that screaming alarm Sunday morning seemed even quieter than Saturday night.  (Mind you that had all changed by noon, and a few passes by the police with their own alarms and sirens and making loud-hailer announcements about the need for a permit to be outdoors.)

However, before the police appeared by car and on motorbikes, all other motorbikes had gone.  They must be exhausted from all the exercise they took last night.

The cicada sound has been replaced by a distant sound of gulls squabbling over some patch of water way out at sea.  F says they are fishing. Closer to home, a couple of them are courting on the roof of a nearby apartment.  I guess it is like a clifftop to them.  The humans are not going to be best pleased with the guano deposits if they make a nest up there.

Even though it is Sunday, the lady in the orange vest is out working her way along the street with her big broom and collecting pan.  She's sweeping around our bins - if it wasn't for people doing jobs like hers, you would all be wallowing knee deep in your own rubbish.  F picks up pieces of rubbish in front of our apartment when she goes to work each morning (used to) and calls it the #2minutestreetclean  but this lady does hours of sweeping every day.  She's one of the people I watch.

The street was so quiet for a space this morning that walkers and cyclists were even going the wrong way (it's one way to traffic) up the middle of the road.  The house-martins are out again and chattering from the wire in front of our balcony.  F saw the dolphins again today; I wonder whether other people see them or they are just figments of her imagination.

I'm trying to get her to vacate the hammock.  I want it all to myself.
