High Pressure

F went cycling early today - even before she served my breakfast!  She was only gone an hour and half - that's a ride to Perama and back - so my Sunday breakfast arrived at 0930, and it was a 'posh catfood' one so she's forgiven.

We must be experiencing high pressure today.  The sea has been squashed down revealing bright green 'seaweed' on the rocks around the edges that would normally be covered by water.

It's really calm and a bit hazier than usual.  Idra's outline is disappearing.  Aegina is looking all soft and misty, and as usual although we know Poros is in our view it's outline is disguised by the skyline of the Peloponnese.  Most days we just have to kid ourselves that we can see a darker shadow that is Poros, but on very rare days when the haze between her and the mainland is more dense than over the gulf, she stands out clearly. We have even been able to distinguish Mothi (Modi).

Today the haze far out to sea has  yellowish tinge, as if it is full of dust.

Fishing kayaks have appeared in the inlet.  They are a new development.

F said the roads were really full of traffic this morning which is unusual for a Sunday (even a normal Sunday), but she thinks it is Mother's Day today; all the florists are open and have balloons and ribbons and pretty potted plants set out.

Some flowers on our balcony

  3. I am really enjoying your blog. So nice to hear anothers view from the other side of the Saronic Gulf.
On clear nights we can see the lights of Piraeus and I think down the coast to Glyfada. I'll wave at you next time. We live on the hills facing Athens though cannot see Aegina, it is over the other side of the hill.

  4. We will wave back. F is cheered to know there is another Kiwi out there, just across the way. She sailed to Poros a couple of times when leisure sailing was still something people did.
