Small Fishing Boats

Around sunrise this morning the surface of the sea was mirror calm.  I have been sitting on my Condo waiting for F to complete her morning routine (which includes preparing and serving my first meal of the day) watching dozens of tiny fishing boats dotted across the surface of this calm Saronic Gulf.

F photographed them for me but you can't see them in this picture - they are like small flies balanced on the meniscus of a pond - out there where the water changes colour in the distance.
We can even hear the close ones put-puttering.  The cars and motorbikes will start moving soon and that will drown out everything else, puttering boats, cooing pigeons, - perhaps not the canaries on balconies, they manage to raise their song above the melee of city sounds.

  1. A fellow blogger on Poros tells me that OAP boatowners are now allowed to go out fishing, but not with nets. That should make them happy.

    1. We read that (in fact we found your blog through finding her's). We can see Poros from here. Those fishers got a fabulous weekend of calm mornings this last weekend.

    2. And here I am! The fishermen are finally allowed out and are having good catches. The fish have got tame during the lcokdown lol
We are high up above the water but on calm days, as in no motorbikes, we can hear the putt putting of little boats but not see them. A very mediterranean sound it seems to me.

    3. We could see patches of fish jumping on the sea in front of us on calm mornings during lock-down. The circling gulls often pointed them out before the silver flashes became obvious. F though dolphins might have been rounding them up but we never saw dolphins at the same time.

By the way - every time we see dolphins they are swimming from left to right across the view. They never go the other way (unless it is in the dark) so we are making a bold assumption that they only swim anti-clockwise in a big circle around the Saronic Gulf.
