Trireme

A trireme came by today - like they do.....

Yes, bad pic, but it is unmistakeable.

It is going from right to left (just in case you are more familiar with Viking boat shapes and assume the curvy bit is the prow/front).

You can just about make out its battering ram bow (- forerunner of the bulbous bow on modern merchant ships - or possibly not).

Maybe the humans are preparing for a sea battle with Persians again.

There are trireme drydocks in Passilimani (around the corner from us) but it will have a difficult time getting into one these days.  When we looked at them they were underneath an apartment block and closed in by big windows.

Anyway it was being towed by something altogether more modern (and noisy).  It made us realize you could possibly sneak up on your enemies in a row boat, but not with a tug (particularly one which sounded like it was powered by a 2 stroke Diesel engine).

Oh the views from my commandeered hammock chair!

Mornings are cooler at last so it is actually pleasant to sit in the sun again (and watch passing triremes).

It is fur this reason I so miss being in my own wee Hutch, Mr T... with it's views 'doon the watter' of the Clyde and all the shipping that rides it. Sigh... never a Trireme though. That was a special sighting! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
(Who might hint to F that there was some difficulty reading the post due to tiny font... could that be changed back?)

    1. Ah - thanks for font hint. That wasn't something we changed - Blogger has 'updated' us it seems. We will see what we can do. (F)

  2. Good thing you're always on watch. Wish I could join you on your balcony, in that hammock chair.
Fancy seeing a trireme . Lucky F was there with her camera. It came into Poros once, or one of them did, many years ago. Somewhere I too have a photo, in the bottom of a box
