Finished but Not Finished

They still need whiskers, but we are calling the patchwork part finished.

Now it needs to be layered up with batting and backing, quilted and bound at the edges. F hates, hates, hates quilting.  How can someone make as much patchwork as she does and not yet have sorted out the necessary skills to make a decent job of actually turning it into a quilt?  She does it, but won't be showing off the finished product.  We have loads of patchwork quilts folded in one of the cupboards I like to climb into, but they never seem to come out again.

I don't mind, they are comfortable to sleep on.  This one is definitely mine - it's got ME all over it.

(F note: Mr B might have other plans.  It was originally intended to be his birthday present quite a few years ago.  It was purchased as a kit from a photo, and the sent fabrics are more beige and black than the reds and oranges of the original photo, so F was a bit disappointed and couldn't find the enthusiasm for it.)

It is delightful!!! My sister is doing her C&G in Quilting and Embroidery. Tell F that to quilt is simply to join all the fabrics together with a stitch. The act of sewing on the whiskers could serve as the quilting part and nothing else required. I think Mr B would be very very happy indeed with this!!! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. We are still debating the whiskers. I say white. F has suitable stuff in black. The design had multi-coloured ones made out of ric-rac. We've at least agreed "no wriggly whiskers". Black or white?

..errrr... well, how about black on the lighter patches and white on the darker ones? (Jus' call me the "deeil's advocate!") Yxx

  2. It looks great.
At the patchwork store they do quilt if you need
For a price. Everything has a price. But if you really hate it that much
It might be worth looking into.
It’s so pretty it’s a shame to be just put into a cupboard

    1. We need to find some batting - really nice batting. The only stuff F has found here so far is quite stiff; the stuff they use to wrap foam before upholstering. We are looking for batting we could get in UK that had a bit more drape to it (so you can tuck it around yourself and the cat). It will get done, just not well.

  3. That design has an appeal about it that is adorable. I hope you do get it finished off and are able to use it. And I am sure Tigger would appreciate it as well :)

  4. Marvellous array of cats. You've got to finish it F. Good luck with the batting. Isn't there anywhere in those little backstreets around Piraeus harbour that sell it? They should be open now. I'm thinking of one particular little shop that sells wool and sewing stuff. However can't remember the street name.
