Grey Pullover

F knitted this for her nephew (now living in Hamburg).
It was finished in plenty of time to be sent for Christmas and would have gone until she found out that to courier it from door to door would be more expensive than a return airfare (Athens/Hamburg) AND change for beer (more than 3x the price of the wool!) She hopes he understands.

That's 2 sweaters now waiting to be delivered to him, and a hat for his friend Anna,
and now another hat from the left-over grey wool.

At this rate she's going to need to charter her own plane when the lockup ends - if it continues much longer.

...is there no registered post from Greece, one wonders? Then again, that is not cheap either. Surely less than a courier or an airfare though... Those jumpers are gorgeous - hope he's got others to handle the cold! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. Reg post - possibly - but we don't have a permit category for going out to the PO. The expensive courier was a door to door service. Cheaper ones existed but like PO, can't get there. Anyway Fs dying to go further than the outdoor market 4 blocks away (there is a permit for food purchasing of course) and has weeks of leave to use up.... she likes Hamburg (and she likes her nephew). He's a mountaineer who until recently lived in Northern Italy; he's bound to have warm clothes, just not necessarily ones you'd wear to a dinner invitation with your potential in-laws

  2. F is an excellent knitter. She has to get those to Germany!! The number for the PO is the same as that for bank and govt offices/ public service offices. No 3

  4. Beautiful work. Yes sending things through the mail usually costs more than the items themselves
Bit of a rip off if you ask me when I can order things online from China and it’s cheaper than ordering them from the shop around the corner
    Doesn’t make sense at all

    1. Angela we discovered in UK that somethings we 'ordered fron China' were already sitting in a warehouse in UK, and distributed from there. The speed by which they arrived gave it away for a start.

  5. I love that sweater. The cabling is beautiful. I hope the garments somehow get to their destination soon.
