 New Year's Day in Piraeus

Sunshine. That's Aegina you can see closest, with Poros, the Peloponnese and Hydra way (waaaay) in the distance. The sun is shining on all of them.

Last night our friend and neighbour, Panagiota, went into the street at midnight and burned the old year

Vikings appaently used fire in the depths of their mid-winter to make the sun come back  above the horizon again - it seems to have worked. 20 degrees C on our balcony at 0930 this morning.

SUN-BATHING WEATHER!
PS. We have some video of P whirling fire chains around but F needs to do something to it before I can stick it in here.

  1. Oh for 20C! It is only just 4C here! We had hail and snow on Wednesday.

A little above freezing here by the Hutch... but the sky is blue (icy) and the sun is glaring (warmly - through the glass) and the hilltops remain dusted white. It's a braw day, right enough, and I'd like to think it is the sign of brighter times ahead. Think pawsitiff, right Mr T? Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. We are in the middle of summer and our temps are not much above that so different to last year where we were burning

I’m happy there are no fires but a tad warmer would be nice
Maybe our sun is isolating too

  4. Maybe burning the old year is something we all need to do, such a good idea.
