All over the street....
Someone lost their marbles all over a back street between here and the Post Office. Maybe they had been locked up in a sunless flat for too many weeks.
Maybe they had stood in that post office queue for half a day and had the door shut in their face when it closed at 2pm. Being a cat in a backpack in a Post Office queue is only vaguely interesting for a short while (from the cat's point of view).
F has no shame. She sidled around and picked up the marbles. It created some curiosity in an otherwise uneventful day. We could see them glinting - like cats eyes reflecting a light in the dark. Some of these are called cats eyes aren't they?
A few had rolled under a car. We might have been able to recover most of those too but someone was unloading the car at the time, so it might have been a bit weird to have an F slithering underneath grasping at spilled marbles.
I could have done it, looked nonchalant, given them a playful swipe, but I don't really care for marbles.
And just in case you think we stood in a Post Office queue for half a day, I'll set you straight. When we discovered that 16 people were queuing before the post office had even opened, we spun on F's heel, photographed some orange blossom along the street,
and came back home (collecting up marbles en route).
and came back home (collecting up marbles en route).
Oh the excitement of living in a big city. 16 people on the queue before the PO even opened! Mind you at the end of the month we have a queue before opening too but not 16 and at least you know them all and can have a matter.
ReplyDeleteWonder where the marbles came from. Maybe some small boy lost em all, and was hurried by his mama
F's tried 3 days in a row but the queue seems to be getting longer earlier. Everybody must be collecting parcels of stuff they have bought on-line!
DeleteMarbles? Who knows? Might have been a girl. F's Mum was a marbles champion!
Be careful Tigger and look after those little round glass balls. F might lose her marbles one day soon if she keeps ending up in queues like that - then she will need you to give her some of your ones.
ReplyDeleteLOL keep smiling and purring, Mittens 😻
(big grin) we haven't waited in the queue yet. it is starting to look like our daily lockdown exercise is a walk to the PO to report on the queue. Everyone is going to go loopy the way things are at the moment. I guess we cats can just sleep it out.....
ReplyDeletekeep thos marbles handy because I appear to be losing mine.. you can ride to the post office in the backpack and mail them to me.. it has been MANY years since I last saw marbles like these. my brother used to have bags of them and play with them all the time... good idea to pick them up because they could make old people like me fall by stepping on them

ReplyDeleteOh I used to love playing marbles - and the aim was to win as many dopplers as possible (the extra big ones) and yes, the catseyes were more points as well.... what a serendipitous found, both decorative and who knows when they may become useful?!! Crikey, though - hope F one day arrives as first in such a queue - it would be worth the waiting then! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
Wow. I too turn and run when there is a cue, but sometimes I have to just line up and wait
ReplyDeleteI wonder if some of those marbles are mine. I lost my marbles years ago lol
