Writers.

Over the last year or two my humans have been watching carefully rationed episodes of some TV series called 'Durrells'.  They never saw it when it was broadcast in UK, and are watching it now on some sort of subscription view TV.

On our first full day in Corfu Old Town F and Mr B visited a soap factory and came back with a bag full of soaps. They said they also found the local produce market and didn't even bring me so much as a photo let alone a whiff or lick of the tuna fish they saw there.  They know tuna is the only kind of fish I like!

In the afternoon we took a walk around the edge of town until we reached the gate of the Old Fort. En route I posed nicely in the portico of the St Michael and St George Palace (now an art gallery).

We didn't go in here, nor did we visit the Old Fortress on the basis that any place with a ticket booth at the entrance generally objects to touring felines gaining entry.

We did however visit a nice little park beside the Old Fortress gate; and guess what we found?

The park has bronze busts of Lawrence and Gerald Durrell with memorials to each of them. It had some remarkably English style flower gardens, and neatly mowed grass too. We just enjoyed sitting in its peaceful sunshine for a while (and I pretended to be checking my social media accounts).

  2. Love the Durrell's. Nice to know they are remembered in Corfu. I laugh long and loud at the English humour but also at the presentation of Greek women back then. Even in the 70s when I first arrived Greek women stayed at home and did not drink coffee in the squares or smoke cigarettes. Poor old pregnant Daphne probably would have been ousted from the island Vasilia would have been branded a whore for sure.
But it's a damn entertaining series and who cares about the details.
I'm watching the series for about the fourth time on ERT 2:every evening.

    1. We enjoy it too and have rationed it an episode each Sunday night to make it last. When we reach the end (which is close) we will have to watch again all of Call the Midwife from its very beginning (which is another feel-good 'Sunday night' drama).

  7. Oh Gerald Durrell, yes now I remember who he is, took a minute to cick though. Hopefully Tigger got some Tuna in the end. We bought back some fish last weekend after fishing, Mr Bruno tried to run off with one of them in his mouth but after we had filletted them he loved getting scraps to munch on.
