Curtains

Three years ago when we moved in here, there wasn't a lot of spare cash swilling around our household. F made some light, white, muslin curtains for our lounge. The entire front of our apartment - kitchen and lounge - is glass; about 10 metres of floor to ceiling glass.

The flimsy muslin drapes don't actually obscure much and they insulate nothing.

Insulation isn't an issue in this apartment in this place, and we have external shutters if we want to feel closed in.

Mr B likes closed in.

F hates it.

This winter, with all the bleak moods that seem to be pervading society, F decided to add some colour to the glass wall of our lounge - to brighten things up, she said.

So now there are two layers of curtains you could sneeze through (I know because I do). You can still see through them and they definitely don't insulate anything, but they do make the glass wall orange at night.

  1. Nice and bright especially with your Xmas tree. I love shutters. Love that closed in feeling too on winters nights.

    1. We like shutters when it's snowing, but the shutters here make it feel like being locked in a windowless garage. And they rattle a lot.

Oh, that's pretty! I have to say, once the sun goes down and the stars can be seen, as long as lights have to be on inside, I am in favour of screening between the two; for who knows who is on the outside looking in unseen??? Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. Seems F doesn't care who is on the outside - especially living as far above the ground as we do now. She likes to look out even in the dark. Mr B on the other hands swishes the curtains as soon as the sky grows a bit dim.

  3. so now you have night time curtains and daytime curtains and both F and B can be happy at the same time.. I am with F, i love bright and open and light and more light. I want to SEE OUT.. of all our windows. but at night I want them closed. we have blinds for night and open blinds with sheer white valance for bright sun.. I see presents under the tree, do they smell like catnip?

    1. Nothing smells like catnip. I've found a new vice. It's called valerian.

    1. No one asked me but I could yave put money on the colour.... is you visit the old post you can see the colour of our dining room curtains in England. I think F might be mentally tied to that colour: https://tiggerswee-blog.blogspot.com/2013/01/scratching-post.html

  5. Oh that will give a very mysterious floaty middle eastern look and feel to the room when there's a bit of a breeze

I'm not too keen on being closed in, we have 'nets' to stop prying eyes and there's very little passing traffic after dark but like your Mr B my Golfer feels the need to close the blinds. Drives me crazy- oh look it's starting to get dark - swish they're closed over. Must be a pommy thing!

    1. We were trying for the mysterious middle eastern floaty look and just ended up with an out of control spinnaker trashing the lounge.
