Postcards from San Marino

Did you know that the San Marino Grand Prix ran at Imola - which isn't in San Marino? Mr B added that postscript. (I think he was disappointed to realize that.)

For people that have never heard of San Marino, it claims to be among the world's oldest Republics. Link here.

F writes that everthing you can see looks like a large, well groomed estate. It is immaculate, historic, quiet, devoid of felines, ....

..and some kind of low tax place.

Why no cats?

It is also famous for its 3 towers (of which this is one)

The main town is on the west facing side of that escarpment
Farmland

Sanmarinese people must have a sense of humour. Here, a statue of a distressed woman, unclad in a bit of scarf, is carrying her baby and running away from something scary - WEARING HIGH HEELED SHOES.

What you are less able to see in this pic is that generations of tourists have given her well polished buttocks.
They have cable cars. I have travelled in cars, vans, buses, ferries and trains, but no cable cars or aeroplanes. This needs to be resolved.

F also writes that they went to a 'museum' on the history of San Marino, and, having considered that, they are now more deeply curious about the international status of Isle of Man (see JayCee's blog from IoM) which we understood has the oldest parliament in the world.

Is that true Jaycee? (San Marino might be an old republic, but that didn't always necessarily mean democratic representation, or a parliamentary system of governance).

Sunset.

It seems the sun sets on every place on earth.

Sunset in various shades of phone camera fuzz.

Sunsets never fail to look lovely, however they are viewed!

I got into F1 while being with dad those last few years... quite enjoy it; and one of the things I learned on the 2020 runs is that the Emilia Romagno race run that year was the first time Imola had been used since 2006 - which was the last time the 'San Marino' was run. It was originally called that because the Italian GP at Monza was already established and there couldn't be a second one. Am not sure why the name of San Marino was dropped - no doubt something to do with licenses.

And you definitely need to sort out that lack of transportation experience in air-trolleys, Tigger! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. It was only yesterday that Mr B worked out that F1 stuff. There are both Imola and Monza Grand Prixs this year. Air trolleys - we know of one in Athens so I shall start nagging.....xxx Mr T

  2. The look on her face is saying……‘I dare you’.
So how could some of those humans not give it a rub?
Don’t worry you’ll get lots of tummy rubs when F gets home again

  3. the first thing i saw was naked and those heels. i sat and stared before I read wondering why she had on heels. seems no one knows. or cares. ha ha.. the artist is very gifted and I am betting it was a MALE artist. she is probably distressed because her feet are killing her. I don't do races, but the Grand Prix words make me think of ferraris. Bob knows, anything that has wheels that turn that races he will know about it. the sunset is beautiful and love the view of the farm lands. I know you are having a blast and missing Tigger

  4. I rather liked the term Sanmarinese - and it occurred to me that it would also be a good name for a variety of cat!

  5. My father visited San Marino when he was in Italy during the War. He used to speak of climbing up to that tower on the hill and I still have his postcard of it. Enjoy your travelling around :)
