Football and Heroes

There were half a dozen lads playing football all day today in the street in front of our apartment and in the parking space underneath us.  As lads are inclined to be, someone has turned the volume to 10 and broken the dial. That football has bounced off everything.

There's lots of slamming sounds and then the Greek version of 'gooooooaaaal'.

Why our apartment? It is the only one on the street that cars can't park in front of, so there is room for a kickabout when you add the garage and footpath to the street.

Practicing my 'withering' look....

We were 'working from home' and F was really annoyed. No one invited her to join in.

What 10 year old kid wants a weird spiky haired old woman in green overalls and bare feet on their football team?

F has found a new hero...... (she has several, new ones don't replace the old ones - I'm the bestest hero naturally.) Spoonlady and of course her sound Angels in Heaven

Overalls, bare feet, wiry, and enjoying herself...

Who are your heroes and why?

PS the air was full of swifts as the sun was setting last night.

good witherlook there, Tigger ol' boy... and Abby Roach can surely handle a spoon or two!!! (I see she is only 40 and looking twenty more than that, but no taking away that talent.) The Washington Post Mag did a full-length article (or 55min podcast) about her and Chris just after Angels in Heaven went viral. There's also a short doco movie available. I have them bookmarked if you are interested... (I don't want to stick too many links in here with the new comments box proving erratic... I found a couple of yours on mine in the spam folder... and that was without any links in them. ) hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. Hard living can do that to a woman. F loved that interview she U-tubed ... seems trolls picked on all the things F loved about her.

  2. I don’t think I’d even be able to last two minutes playing football with youngings
I’d much rather sit on the side lines and watch.
I posted my email for you

  3. My hero is my younger sister . She was our dad's carer as well as bringing up her 4 kids. Now she is Supergran to her 3 grandkids. Oh, and she also fitted in her role as Town Councillor too.

    1. Now that is heroic. F's brother is one of her heroes for similar reasons.

  4. I sympathize with F trying to work as those ball-smack sounds can reverberate through everything. Great to see lads doing something enjoyable though. We seem to be having a spate of youth crimes here at the moment - playing footie is so much better than participating in a ram raid or breaking into a toyshop.

  5. Gail says there would have been no point joining in the football as "boys don't pass to girls" anyway. I think she is speaking from bitter experience in her youth. Maybe things have changed now?

    1. Grandmas aren't 'girls' tho are they? Grey hair achieves all sorts of things it seems.

  6. I have seen that video of them singing but not the one of her talking and I wish there were a way to make every person listen to it. what a story and it covers everything, not just no teeth. thank you for posting both video. About the neighbors, 3 houses over from us is a house with 2 kids, the kids from the street go there to play ball and skate in the driveway, the noise level might be higher than 10... I said to Bob why are they playing in that driveway and not in their own? they skate and scream too. the driveway they choose is closer to us and not their own. yesterday, while standing waiting on Beau to follow scents, i was staring at their driveway and behold, there is a four foot by four foot hole init and the driveway is a total mess. thus the reason for the other.. now that i read your post i am ashamed of some things I said to bob. about your comment about free cycle. that is a fantastic idea and I hope we can get that here.

    1. Not sure why but i had the impression Freecycle started in US. Kids just have to scream - it's the way they are programmed!

  7. F and Tigger, the hedgehog is back. It must have known you were asking about it.
