School's Out for Summer...

...and kids playing soccer under our apartment has become part of the daily soundscape.

On Thursday when we came home there was a serious risk I might wear a low flying, high-speed soccer ball as we approached our front gate.  The game paused, small and medium sized boys appeared from all over and tested the feel of the cat's fur.

'The Cat' remained calm, and very Zen about it all.

On Friday a tickle of a sound in the background drifted into the consciousness about midday - voices across water - and we looked out to see...

It is a little hard to see in Zoomed phone photos, but one of those canoe-y things seemed to spend more time rolling over than being paddled right-side up.  Still the kids were having a great time by the sounds of things.

Today I watched the soccer players from the edge of our balcony railing.  You can study the tops of their haircuts from up here and I was transfixed by them for ages.

F has been pulling stuff off shelves and out of cupboards and asking herself whether it stays in Greece or goes back to UK.  She pulled down a little book called "Wisdom of the Millenium".  It is one of those little volumes that is full of what are supposed to be inspirational quotes.  She wouldn't have bought it but has no idea who gifted it.  Opened randomly it advised us that ...

WE HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE WHO TELL IT LIKE IT IS - NOW WE COULD USE A FEW WHO TELL IT LIKE IT CAN BE. (Robert Orben)

Is that OK with you?

Absolutely okay, Tigger dear! Lovely Sunday reading - and given that it has been actual summer here by the Hutch for a couple of days now, we too are experiencing that 'summer sounds' situation with voices drifting from afar, frolics and laughter and a sense of joy... not to be knocked! Ooooh, seems F is starting that big packing malarkey that comes to those of us who expat and repat... good luck with that. Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. Tigger, us Really Old Seniors are tell it like it was, and to tired to think about how it could be. I do like the quote and it needs to be done. this photo of you is heart melting. I wish I could test your furs myself. So glad you have free entertainment from your balcony while F is doing the sort through for the coming move. kids can have fun doing just about anything. Just like cats!

  4. Is it OK to bark when one hears 'summer sounds' outside on the street during the night? (YAM-aunty will understand why I am asking this question...)
    Toodle-oo!

    1. If barking is a k9 version of touching your human on the face to say 'come out and share this', then of course its OK. In fact its required. Humans sleep right through so much good stuff. Xxx Mr T

  5. I so wish I had a young persons energy levels
Although running around in the heat never really interested me
Summer is for laying around and not doing much at all I say

  6. it's good to go through possessions once in a while and decide what stays and what goes. We have had endless rain and wind here, typical South Island weather. Mr Cat has a new bed she virtually never gets out of next to the fire.
