Fallen Monarch

Near the centre of our ‘town’, between the main shopping street and the railway line is a park; a cricket ground.  It has a pavilion (which seems to be  posh name for a building from which cricket is organized), public toilets, a playground for small humans, a structure that passes for a ‘skatepark’, and some trees.  There is also a small house that might once have been a park-keepers cottage but which these days is devoid of life.

On the corner of the park used to stand a huge tree.  It’s roots disrupted the fence and may have drawn moisture from the small stream that runs along that edge of the park.  Last year we got a message from Mr B to tell us that a violent Summer storm had felled the tree on the corner of the park.  The mess that it made of the footpath, the fence, the grass, has all been cleaned up and order restored, but the trunk of the formerly mighty tree remains lying on the corner of the park

As coincidence would have it the demise of the tree may have come in the same month as the death or our former monarch Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and someone had the bright idea to carve a tribute to Her Majesty into the fallen monarch of trees.

Corgi

In case you didn't know, Her Majesty owned all the swans in England (I guess the new King owns them now)

    1. Mr B says - halfway down the stairs is the stair where I sit, there isn't any other stair quite like it. it isn't at the bottom. It isn't at the top, but it's the stair where I always stop - with apologies to AA Milne. Fz and Pz Mr T

  2. I love the use the tree trunk has been put to. Such clever people to carve these mementoes.

  3. The carving also has a little 'fairy door' which we suspect hasn't anything to do with HRH memorial.

  6. the carving is beautiful and that tree was certainly majestic, which makes the carving perfect. Beau has no staris, but he has 3 spots that he lies in, the same spot, as though it is marked and it is not. my favorite today is the cottage. It is truly amazing to me. I would love to visit inside. it should be in use for something
