Temporarily Suspended

Secretarial service to my blog were temporarily suspended last week for reasons I have failed to understand.  I have been super nice to the secretary, put up with her being late home, arriving home looking like a drowned rat, and leaving early.  I have cat-lapped her, snuggled her during the night, massaged her face in the mornings and purred into her crumbling hip (purring heals things - did you know that?)

All I got in return was some dodgy meals, my litter tray cleaned out, and some fur brushings (and administration of toothpaste - which I could easily have foregone in the interests of allocating the time to something more enjoyable or useful.)  Even the blog reading has been piling up on us.

We hope that all our friends in blogland are living their best lives, enjoying the seasons they are in and finding happy things in every day with family and friends around them.

Yam-Aunty has arrived for another visit.  This time she has a big grey van - even bigger than mine (but size isn't everything Yam-Aunty, mine has 'Tigger beds' in it, and I can recline while watching where we are going.)

Mr B has been away loads, visiting cows.  I don't understand his sudden interest in cows, but he came home on Sunday night to announce that his team had been 'second in Class'.  I think that is meant to be a good thing.

Rain.  It rained last night. My humans were almost dancing and F didn't seem to mind that she had walked home in it and looked like a drowned rat.  The allotment, which is now all planted up with vegetables, will be coming up all over again with bindweed.  F should have dug it more thoroughly before she planted stuff shouldn't she?  Even though they haven't been rained on the plants in the greenhouse more than doubled in sized in less than a week.  They have their own watering system but even their water reservoir will have filled up from the roof run-off during the rain.

We have a pineapple growing in the greenhouse.  F assures me that it will not have any fruit (as if I could care either way) - it was simply an experiment in getting the top to make roots in a glass of water on the kitchen bench.  Apparently it worked, so now it is in composty stuff and we wait to see if it will grow more.

NB from F - Cowes not cows.  Round the Island Race on Saturday, with a crew who had chartered the boat to sail the race so as to tick it off a 'bucket list'.  They weren't sailors, so pulling off second place in their Class was quite some achievement.

  1. Thank goodness it's Cowes not cows. You wouldn't want now of those pushing in. Do you know Mrs. Hird of Cowes?

  2. I wondered about the cows. All clear now. What's this about a crumbling hip, then? That doesn't sound so good.

    1. Of the hip F says not serious and in fact she wouldn't know if it hadn't been commented on in a scan before her appendix was removed a few years ago. Possibly it's the result of too many (controlled) crash landings during her years of marshall arts.

  3. Will done on second place.
And yeah to the rain. I know you haven’t had much over the last few months.
Hopefully your secretary is back in full swing soon

    1. Only second in class Angela, there are about 16-20 classes - about 1100 boats over all. They came about 135 out of the whole race. It was a pretty rough day - 15 people went overboard from other boats, some dismastings, and lots that didn't finish.

  4. Gail is very impressed by Mr B and his crew's performance at Cowes. In her (limited) experience of yacht racing, it is a highly competitive affair, no matter the skill levels of the participants, and involves far too much shouting.
We are pleased that the Grey and its inhabitant have arrived safely.

    1. No shouting on Mr B's boats. We will take you sailing if you are ever at this end of the island and fancy a day out on the water.

  5. That is just a little rhubarb- first year. We have had to re-establish my rhubarb as the tenants here while we were in Greece clearly did not appreciate it. You can search my old posts for rhubarb to see my connection to the stuff.

Tigger, mate, it's so good to be with you again - and with F and Mr B. The rain has really helped the gardens and nature and it has freshened the air. Something we hyoomons tend to appreciate after a prolonged dry spell. Now, I wonder if you'd like to explore my big grey van...??? Hugs and whiskeries YAM-aunty xxx

  7. I had guessed you had misspelled Cowes Mr T. Many years ago I was invited to a corporate shindig there with wine and buffet aboard a boat out on the water. Sounded glamorous but was just a chartered rusty old ferry boat.

    1. Rusty? I wonder where they found that! We hope the wine and food made up for the less than sparkling paint job.

  8. Congrats to Mr B and his crew! It has been very wet here lately (it is winter, after all), so its a bit strange to imagine F being so thrilled to see the stuff - Mittens abhors it LOL

    1. We reckon that as you are a gardener you would be thrilled for rain too if your summer got as hot and dry as June here had done. Tell Mittens to find a nice cozy place indoors. xxx Mr T

  9. congrats on 2nd place with the COWS ha ha.. glad you explained, i was ready to sign up since cows are high on my love list.
Bob grew many pineapples. each time I bought one, he took the top that I cut off, and planted in a bucket of soil and watered. each of them had 1 to 2 pineapples grow out of the big bushy thing it grew. he can't remember how long it took. hoping your will grow to. with extreme heat you are having it might happen for you. so glad you got rain. we are now 1 week from any rain and hoping for a little today. 40 percent chance over today and next 2 days.

    1. We suspect no chance the pineapple with have fruit - we just want to see how big it gets before it realizes it is in the wrong country.

  10. I laughed at 'cows' - we watch the Solent every day and often see the races, as well as the grockle boats. Well done and many congratulations to Mr B - that's really quite an achievement.
It sounds as though you're snowed under and possibly weathered under as well. A relaxing break is in order.

  11. oooh pineapple? Hope you get a good harvest, maybe Mr T should try some once they are ready, until then they would be perfect in desserts and cakes.
