Clockwise from top left - beech nut husks (2), elderberries, hawthorn with hops growing over it, hops, flowers on ivy.
These photos were collected during a countryside walk on our holiday in Tewkesbury last autumn, and have languished in some folder on my phone.
I loved the smooth insides of the beech nut husks (beech nuts are tasty by the way). Birds were already stripping the elderberries, and around there wild hops were rampant in the hedgerows.
An article from BBC news website this week on England's hedgerows: England's hedges would go around Earth ten times - BBC News
Hedges are so important for all kinds of wildlife. I'm glad the fashion for prairie-style fields seems to have passed. LOVE
ReplyDeleteAgree - I have always thought the vast agricultural landscapes of parts of northern France to be a bleak and uncomforting outlook.

ReplyDeleteWhat delightful images of nature's abundance! And, yes, Beechnuts are yummy 😋 YAM xx
wow that is a lot of hedges.. daddy had the red berries on the front of their house and the birds would get drunk eating as many as they could as fast as they could..

Spring flowers are appearing here. Jonquils I think. I can never remember the English name. Warmer days are coming.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos of nature
Linda sue here, these photos are so gorgeous. My heart jumped into my throat! Thank you so much, you have made my day! Beautiful.

My favourite season, we will be seeing those colours soon.
ReplyDeleteSo much nature abundance. Being of European heritage I see all that can be used and made into food and drink. But in the Aussie bush I don’t see anything. I’m sure the traditional owners of the land see a supermarket when they look at the exact same bush.
ReplyDeleteI one day would like to do an indigenous bush tucker course. I think it would be fascinating
