Spring out back

These are more purple than the photo suggests.  I love the colour purple.

And these are not as red as I had wished for.  The originals in this garden (which must be in excess of 30 years old now) are red and yellow - really primary red and primary yellow - and I had hoped to supplement them

Big straggly rosemary bush. It it shading the rhubarb garden but I am loath to pull it out as it never seems to stop flowering and is so beloved by the nectar feeding insects

Muscari - Grape Hyacinths - these are every where as they seed freely.

Magnolia stellata was a bit 'past it' when we got home from holiday.

Quince tree is budding - furry little critturs aren't they?  Even the fruit is furry when we harvest it in the autumn

Daffs all over the place.  Random splashes of yellow.

Dog Violets I think - wild under the apple tree.

Poor Poly's have been chewed by something.  They have flowered continuously since early December 2022 - yup a whole 16 months.

  1. Such pretty tulips. The only ones we've seen so far this spring are the ones in flower shops. And the few magnolias in Aberdeen are still to bloom.
    Happy Nature Friday.

    1. There seem to be early and late ones. The late one have barely pushed up the smallest of buds yet.

  2. 16 months of flowering is tremendous. They deserve a rest now.
You have many more flowers on your rosemary than we have, but I'm always glad to see them. We use rosemary quite a lot in cooking.

  3. Great flowers pictures. Rosemary cuttings are pretty easy to propagate from a old plant.

    1. Thanks Dave - I will give it a go. I would cut it back but rosemary doesn't grow back from bare wood and it got all leggy and bare at the bottom while we were 4 years in Greece.

    1. As I mentioned to Gail - there are early and late tulips - there would be another bucket of purple, different variety and they are REALLY late: buds barely showing.

  5. I had a pot of those endlessly flowering plants, and they went non-stop for three years before collapsing. Lovely photos, complete with raindrops.

  12. I hope you're not the insurer of that ship.

    1. \We are banned from discussing it but our business has indeed now been named in the trade press as the third party liability insurer of 'that ship'.

    2. Heck! Bang goes their NCB. I remember some decades ago a ship ran into Goole Swing Bridge putting the railway line to Hull out of action for many months. There was some doubt as to whether it would be repaired or whether the line would be closed. As I understood it, probably wrongly, ships have very limited liability for bridges so Railtrack had to pay for the repair. People in the area were pretty angry because it made it difficult to get to work and college.
