And then it Rained

As warned by Nobby and his human, Gail, we were bound to encounter Scottish rain at some stage. The stage was during the night at Ardersier.  The previous evening had been calmer than calm and the views of Moray Firth, as I took my evening walk along the foreshore, were remarkable for the millpond surface, and a plume of steam rising straight up into the cooling evening air over on the Fortrose side.

The thing to do when rain is sluicing down is to find a fort to visit. Out on the point stands Fort George, currently the official home of the Royal Highland Regiment (army).

Fort George houses a museum to all the various Highland regiments that have contributed to the modern form of the regiment. It has an almost overwhelming amount of items associated with the history of Highlanders in the British Army.

From there we headed south in rain of biblical proportions.  Roads were becoming well flooded and we stopped in Elgin to build an ark. Further south the rain eased considerably but we have read in news that the English counties of Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire are much in need of our newly built ark. (Over 4 inches of rain in less than 24 hours.) Click the link for photos.

  1. My dad was in WW1, in the Seaforth Highlanders, a regiment probably mentioned there.

Yes, the bulk of the fluid appears to be to the south... but we'll get our share! So glad you got to see the Moray Firth, or part of it. I adore that part of our wonderful coastline. YAM xx

  5. You must be rich if you can afford to build an ark these days?
