Mr B has a friend who wants to buy a boat 😱. Boats are fine, and if one has plenty of dosh, whether one is practical and experienced in boating is irrelevant. People like that employ Mr B.
Friends on the other hand expect favours.
On Tuesday I was invited to join an outing to Ashlett Creek - a boat for the viewing of - FOR SALE.
Ashlett Creek is at the outer end and western side of Southampton Water.
I declined to view the boat and contemplated instead the Ashlett tide mill, mill pond, mud berth moorings in the 'marina' there, The Jolly Sailor, and the surrounding nature spaces. Sitting on the conveniently placed benches (in memory of....) I sketched a rough draft of the tide mill building, and was chatted to by various dog walkers who passed that way.
All very bucolic and peaceful.
It's a lovely place - even the gulls perched on the roof looking out across the mill pond looked serene.

ReplyDeletePicturesque. I've seen tides do that sort of thing but don't recall ever having heard the term 'stand' for it. New thing learnt for today 😊 YAM xx
Please tell us you went for a drink in the Jolly Sailor. It looks like exactly the sort of English country pub that Gail, living in the north of Scotland, misses!
ReplyDeleteOf course we did. Cider.
DeleteMy computer won't let me follow the link, but I remember about Eling. There is a tide mill in Wales at Carew by the castle, built just over 200 years ago on the site of an older one... interesting though that it is also known as a French mill.
ReplyDeleteHow much was a pint of cider? I paid 2.74 in Wetherspoon's when I was in England. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteProbably more expensive than Wspoons - about 7 quid for a pint and 2 halfs. Nice place - plenty of camping spots but a bit off the beaten track.
DeleteInteresting. I didn't know about tide mills. Looks a fine day for a trip out.
ReplyDeletea lovely place to wander and take photos, I see if anyone has a desire to use the boats they must plan ahead and move it out at high tide..
ReplyDeleteWhat a fascinating place - I would have joined you in not looking at the boat!
ReplyDeleteThere used to be several tide mills around Selsey and Chichester too I believe. I would have done much the same as you rather than look at the boat. It looks very peaceful. Arilx
ReplyDeleteIt definitely looks lovely and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn’t mind spending an afternoon just sitting and watching the world go by
