Kirkstone Pass

Kirlstone Pass Free House looks decidedly closed up; possibly has been so for years.  It also looks like someone has decided to revive it and is currently working on the project.

Kirkstone Pass can be approached by either of two routes on the Patterdale side.  This is possibly the less travelled one...
Kirkstone Pass carpark was, however, generously populated with cyclists when we arrived.

The views from up there are worth the climb no doubt, and maybe the developer with schemes on the free house has that in mind.  It would be a good place to 'get away' to (and is potentially very instagramable judging by the tour buses stopping to disgorge their travelling human contents for a contemplation of the countryside).

An old quarry

The view of the lower end of The Struggle (you can just see the line of its stone fences).

  2. Beautiful on a fine day, bleak on a cold, dull day. Lovely cycling terrain for those with strong legs and lungs.

  3. That's a very descriptive name. Not for the unfit or faint of heart. But as JC says, rugged but beautiful
