Coins

Two examples spotted during our recent visit to Scotland. Where I come from people seeking a granted wish chuck coins into water (usually a fountain of spring) - in Scotland it appears, they hammer the coin into an old stump.

Of course it could be for a totally different reason - similar to why people feel compelled to make balancing rock stacks in some parts of the world.

    1. One is right out in the open at Glenfinnan railway viaduct and the 'stump' even looks like it was put there for that purpose. There are squillions of tourists (due to the connection with a certain wizarding story) and people are almost queuing to bash another coin into the stump.

  3. Weird or what. I have a tower, small, of stones under one of the lemon trees. As well as jandals siliconed to a tile. Now I wonder why.

    1. The jandals I kinda get. I even get the atteaction of balancing stones - as a kind of meditation.

  7. I've not come across this custom before - it certainly makes for some strange looking stumps :)

  8. They look other worldly. As if small beings were building a village.
