Ashburton, New Zealand has a very large public park called simply The Domain.
Lots of towns and villages have a 'domain'. It is usually a muti-use sports ground (rugby and cricket, sometimes with a bowling green and tennis courts, athletics track, and gets used for fairs and picnics too).
Ashburton's domain has all of that and also has duck ponds and formal and informal gardens, adjoins the local hospital, hospice, and a couple of care homes. It is rhododendron flowering season here so I captured pictures of a few at the Domain, and on my walk back out to the farm where I'm staying.
Some of these were also delightfully scented - mainly the less flashy yellow ones.

Don't they just glow like neon lighting?!
We're going to enjoy your Nature Friday posts from New Zealand, with the upsidedown seasons!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so pretty. And it seems to be a glorious sunny day

ReplyDeleteAh yes, spring down under.....sigh. This makes me think of Sydney's Domain, home to the art gallery, botanic gardens, and some amazing Moreton Bay figs... YAM xx
It's spring time in November over there. Smashing Rhodi photos.
ReplyDeleteOh such glory.
ReplyDeleteIt seems hardly any time since photos of ice and snow were coming from the South Island!!
ReplyDeleteGlorious rhododendrons - such generous shrubs to keep flowering so long.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLovely to see NZ in the Spring. And remember the TePuke Domain where all those activities I'm sure still continue. I played hockey there and netball and my brothers played rugby.
ReplyDeleteI love neon colors, as you always see on my blog! these flowers are really like neon. wow. I have not seen any of New Zealand and am looking forward to see what you see. Is NZ like Austrailia and you are opposite us in USA? we have winter and its your summer? Also is it about the same temps and climate as Austrailia? I am off to see just where it is, now that I think on it I really don't know...
ReplyDeleteFabulous colours. I have family living in NZ but have never been so am looking forwards to seeing your photos as you settle back there. Arilx
ReplyDeleteOh my, the glorious colors are breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteSouth Island rhododendrons are spectacular - I enjoyed them so much when visiting in November a few years ago.
