Pukeko,or swamp hen, is one of NZ's more colourful birds in every sense of the word. They are not shy or reclusive. They love farmland and forgive human intervention. They are out and about in daylight and we love their antics.
You might have spotted something unnatural under the Chatham Island lily yesterday. Meet Graham...the pukeko.
Oh I do like Graham.
ReplyDeleteHe even has white under his tail.

ReplyDeleteI do like swamp hens... all water fowl. Live and modelled! YAM xx
Graham is very cute. And looks very much like the pukeko.
ReplyDeleteThe pukeko reminds me of a coot. I like the one under the lily - very smart.
ReplyDeletePukekos wreak havoc with the cabbages in my friend's garden near Hamilton! Not her favourite bird!!

ReplyDeleteI like the metal art, good job on the copy job of the real one...
ReplyDeletePukekos we're our favourite. An exotic looking bird which popped up all over the place. Now we have pukeko magnets and little ones on show in our houses. A family favourite
