These photos are from back in December when Bro drove me and a loaded trailer up to the Marlborough Sounds - and back.
The Wither Hills are just south of Blenheim. In my youth I recall the sheep on these barren hills being even skinnier than our own in drought years.
Irrigation came to our land.
Vineyards came to the Wither Hills. Some of NZ's most well known white wines now come from this region (which is part of the larger Marlborough wine making area - Waiau, Awatere, Cloudy Bay and of course Wither Hills.)

ReplyDeleteVery attractive, in a similar rural manner as the more cultivated parts of the British countryside. One can see why the settlers found familiarity. YAM xx
It's Lakes district without any water.
DeleteBack when I was able to drink wine without it affecting my digestive system, I always looked for Marlborough wines. My favourites.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful wide open blue sky there.
I like New Zealand white wine - Sauvignon blanc, I'm not very adventurous.
