Falling on my head like a memory...
From a summer high temperature on Sunday (a real scorcher) we have dipped to temperatures in low teens and drumming rain.
Much more comfortable.
Chicken and chorizo paella and apple tart. It makes better sense in weather like this, but our usual 1900 or so dinner time had been getting later and later in the hot weather. Evenings are noticeably drawing in and we found ourselves sitting outdoors in the dark, still there when the biting insects emerged from wherever they reside on hot days.
Bro and I have pulled a couple of trailers out from under the trees, emptied the scrap metal and contemplated the condition of deck and sub-structure. They both need new plywood decks. I have been allocated one that Bro deems less work to repair (his part) but it needs wire brushing, coating with rust inhibitor and painting (my part).
And then it rained.
The thrushes are loving it - tearing lumps out of the softened lawns to get at grass grubs. There is a blackbird outside the window right now, head cocked to one side, listening for the vibrations under the earth's surface.
3 blackbirds. Wow.
Wee Jock got into a fracas with a visiting k9 on Sunday evening. A small cut under his eye leaked some blood. Next morning he was a bit sorry for himself but a saline bathe of the gummed up eye revealed the only damage was matted fur and by Monday midday no casual observer would have noticed that his drooping fringe was hiding a shiner.
He wore his droopy left ear as an eye patch at one stage and that along with me having (weeks ago) dubbed him the Killer Teddy Bear had nephew H commenting that he looked like a character out of Peaky Blinders - cap slouched over one eye.
Jock looks very much like my late great Buff, who could bark his own name. He was about 30lbs and the best guard dog a single lady could ever wish for. They shall not pass was his motto.
ReplyDeleteBoys will be boys...
ReplyDeleteHopefully his eye is much better soon. We too are noticing the days are getting shorter.
ReplyDeleteI do like winter for that. It means more time inside snuggly warm
