Fog in the valleys when I drove to Nelson early on Thursday.
A sawmiller in Richmond (near Nelson) has added value to his product by creating kitset cabins.
His photo not mine. I have decided to buy one and live in it until we get the house built. We were going to build a separate guesthouse eventually anyway - so plans change and I'm building the guesthouse first. It was a serendipitous day. I stopped for coffee at the first cafe sign in Richmond (in order to call the bloke before turning up on site) and the cafe just happened to be in a business that sells bbqs and log burners. Only the day before the architect had asked what fireplace I wanted. And now I know...
That was easy. I like showrooms. So much nicer, and easier for decision-making, than looking at pictures on a website. I've touched it; sized it up, imagined it in my lounge.Enough house stuff... here are a few photos I've collected over the last 2 or 3 weeks and can't make into a blog post on their own.

seen in Tinwald Domain when dog walking - parked among the trees. The owner was intermittently reading and lovingly polishing the bonnet (hodd) |

Met at the dog park. Anyone who reads Angus's blog will recognize the doppelganger of 'Puppy' |

I stole this photo off tinternet - I noticed when I drove past the salt ponds at Grasmere (out of Blenheim) that they were an almost iridescent pink (see furthest away ponds). I couldn't stop to photograph them but then I didn't have the services of a drone anyway.
And just in case you need a cuteness shot here is a rainy day photograph of Fergus and The Killer Teddybear.
Your guesthouse looks quite grand. Hurry up and finish all the building work so that I can book myself in! 😄
ReplyDeleteLove the killer teddy bear x

ReplyDeleteI think the pink tinging is caused by green algae - which might cause one to wonder about water quality...
The timber cabin is gorgeous and definitely a good step-wise plan.
The Puppdanger is delightful and of course, your family two just bring big smiles!!! YAM xx
The pink to purple colour of the crystallisation ponds is caused by natural microscopic green algae that change to pink in the high salt concentration. The same phenomena gives the Red Sea its name. There are also small pink shrimps in the water that thrive in this salty environment.
DeleteThat looks a decent cabin..and not a big job to increase the insulation if needed.
ReplyDeleteI agree about seeing and touching before buying...just on a website a thing doesn't seem real.
Fog or mist flowing through valleys is beautiful
Until you have to drive through it!!
I really like the little cabin. Hope you can get the deal done and delivered quickly. The woodburner stove is like ours. It gives off a great heat, enough to warm the whole house. Have you thought about one with a small oven on top. We use ours a lot in the winter. And we boil water and simmer pots on top
ReplyDeletelove love all the dog pics especially the Killer Teddy Bear. ha ha.... the shed is perfect, will you build it your self? or hire someone to do it? love fireplace, will it go in the kit house or just the new house
ReplyDeleteCool little cabin- love the fire as well. The tool shed looks like ours pretty much. Not the most organized of tool keepers...Fergus and Teddy Bear photo will sustain me through this day of dark rain and yearning to have a pup in my chair. I must have missed the post explaining what you are up to- shifting, building- finding greener grass?
ReplyDeleteLittle Morris cutest car ever!
Good looking wood stove, and the guest house looks great. Of course, the dogs take the top prize.
ReplyDeleteThat is the exact wood burner I told hubby I wanted at the farm.
ReplyDeleteThe kit home looks lovely. Very hobbit
