Abandoned

She drove away about midday yesterday and I felt totally abandoned. I'd just been contemplating promoting her to the status of Back-up plan B.

That's quite a leap. Ted, the aging labrador, is my best alternative to home but he seems to have moved away.  Corgis on the occasional holiday seem to have taken his place. They are back-up plan A. I like canine company.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback and Bulldog had been my back-up plan B but their humans have fenced them in (and me out).

Walkers on the coastal path, especially those with k9s had been my reserve back-up plan. Jim round the corner (looks like Hairy McClary) is stand-by to the reserve, and this human was second best stand-by....

She let me lick the yoghurt pot lid and I conceded elevation to a status just above Jim with further promotion available when I was allowed to eat the cold pie her bro had chucked in the rubbish before departing.

I even came over early on a frosty morning to tell her and was so excited....then she blew it by going somewhere in that rattly old van and not coming back until after dark.

Today I bided my time before sauntering over to see what she was drilling holes in.

She's trying very hard to make amends. We went for a walk. There's a bowl of water and a tiny treat (the packet says cat biscuits but I'm not fussy - I eat cold pies and fish bait. The later gets me in a power of trouble, humans don't seem to like my taste for rotting squid!)

I'll think about it. Her verandah is quite a good spot when the sun is shining. I can supervise painting, and snap at bees.

Yours
Scully

PS apparently the nephew reckons I look like the kind of dog that kids' books get written about. Is that a backhanded compliment or a total insult?

  1. It isn't easy Scully when neighbours keep on changing.
Looks like you had a good walk though..and I reckon the nephew's comment was a compliment

Oh definitely a compliment, Scully mate... and a word to the wise... this lady will be good for the long-term, but will need to come and go for various reasons, not least shopping in supplies. That might (I say might) include something a tad better than smelly squid or cold pie... jus' sayin'... hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  8. A day in the life of a congenial canine. You could easily be the star of your own reality show too

  9. Sounds like a very satisfying day for Scully. I don't know why dogs like rotting stuff though, the foxy I use to have would bury rabbit ears in the garden then dig them up weeks later.
