Iron is a bit short over the verandah. I can get another sheet to resolve that. It needs wide fascia boards on the sides so that I can mount the guttering. Collecting rain water is important.
The door joinery hadn't been finished when I made my last trip to collect materials so we have tacked a sheet of construction ply over 4/5ths of the doorway.
It has electric light......an LED lamp running off a USB port in a fast start battery. Hamish is camped in there tonight; allowing the tent to be packed up dry just before the weather cut up rough.
Rain started just as we packed up. Not heavy rain - Hamish still managed to cook steak and eggs outdoors under an umbrella. I made the couscous and salad and we ate indoors, and passed on to Hamish stories we'd been told as kids of the history of the Maori Battalion - several WWII members of which Bro and I had known as kids; unassuming guys whose stories only started to come out as they neared end of life (or, in the case of our local grocer, after death when he got a funeral with full military honours. Surprise to us all.)
PS appropo of nothing it is Norway's national day today. 🇳🇴
Quick progress...and in the nick of time...
ReplyDeleteYou’ll soon be in snug as a bug.
ReplyDeleteWinter has suddenly arrived here today.
Temps in the low teens and finally some decent rain
It’s all looking great
Good to be done before the rain!
ReplyDeleteHave a look at cyclingnz's list of bike clubs..under Tasman area..there is one Marlborough based. The Ramblers have groups as well, they aren't just walkers it includes cycling.
We used to meet up at the end of runs a couple of times a week at St Claire Vinery for coffee and muffins... several different groups including the Ramblers aiming to arrive at the same time!!

ReplyDelete20 May is the commemoration of the Battle of Crete in 1941. The Maori Battalion is always remembered with great honour. In 1977 a hundred or more returned with their whanau. There's a documentary about the event. It's usually shown on Greek TV around this time
ReplyDeleteWe might just honour 20 May for all those old boys we knew - the ones who came home - and their mates who still lying in foreign soil.
DeleteLove your Day Dog and the new house is perfect..

ReplyDeleteHow did this one slip by me? Honestly there are times I wonder at the Blogger delivery system... and having known some old veterens who had begun to retell their early life 'adventure', I can relate to that social gathering you had... YAM xx
