We can organize a barn dance - no barn but we now have the dance floor.
I have a lot more nailing to do (2 per joist per board = about 40 nails in each of 27 boards plus extra at joins). I have tacked in the bare minimum to hold it down because it was becoming apparent I hadn't bought enough nails). Then I need to punch all those nails below the surface and fill the holes, and fill and sand a few knot holes before I can paint it.

We decided on painted floor because the entire inside of the guest house cabin will be wood (see this showroom example)I hope to achieve a kind of worn out painted floor look. Distressed is what I belive it is called. It's like buying your jeans with the holes already made in them.
Mr B was given the choice of rich cream or oyster grey. He chose grey. Bother. I hate grey decor. Mea culpa - I shouldn't have made it an option. I'll cover most of it with an orange and blue rug (see Mr T in the blog header..... That rug.)
Funny that as you go up from pile, to floor, to walls...a house looks smaller and smaller!!
ReplyDeleteGood work.
This is just one room really - a spare bedroom. It will eventually have a small ensuite bathroom. I'm contemplating putting a sauna in a separate cabin beside it.
DeleteI like grey decor so no probs when I come to stay 😄
ReplyDeleteOh yes! a sauna would be the icing on the cake! There is so much wood up here where we live- i think that I am over it- Paint and bright color is my jam these days, probably due to vision loss (?), Anyway, kudos to you, you little worker bee- getting things done- truly remarkable.
ReplyDeleteI love colour too but wood has its own colour and patterns, so I will be using it as the background for bold paintings and hanging patchwork quilts.
DeleteThe floor looks beautiful. I love wood.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking good. Are materials expensive over there?
ReplyDeleteI don't know what to compare prices to. I never tried to build with wood in UK. We live in a sawmilling region. The red cedar cabin 7x3.6m (fir structural and pine floor and lining) is about £14k completed with double glazed doors, and windows, its verandah, and all its electrical and insulation.
DeleteJust reading about your activity makes me a bit tired. You're certainly a good carpenter. That floor won't squeak.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliment. It is people with drive like you have that inspire me to want an active, and creative, life in my mature years.

ReplyDeleteI admit I would be painting the whole interior - I love the look of wood on the exterior but find it claustrophobic for interior. As you say, colour will make all the difference! YAM xx
I shall hang up some examples of my patchworking - it's a good background for that.
DeleteI love the look of all that timber
ReplyDeleteGrey isn’t so bad. You can really spice it up with deep burgundy.
I hope the bad weather stays away until your done
Impressive progress! I agree on the grey but you can dress it up, as you say.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so cosy, i think the grey will be nice, can't wait to see the finished room
