Grey Days

All around us storms have apparently been raging. Christchurch is flooded, Wellington is closed with high wind speeds, Cook Strait ferry sailings have been cancelled.

Meanwhile we had two calm dry days - grey and overcast admittedly but blissfully unaware that all around us is being battered by storms.

Wednesday however had been wet as all..... and we were hauling kiln dried timber from Wakefield (south of Nelson) back up to our remote corner of the woods. I did wonder what condition it would arrive in but we seem to have managed to keep it protected from rain.

Our cabin piles are all levelled and topped with bearers and the floor joist frame. I'm working on the underfloor insulation and we hope to start laying floorboards tomorrow.

Meanwhile because pictures of building subframes are boring here are some random observations...

The Harry Potter Sorting Hat turned up in Havelock (with a friend and both in clever disguise)

Can you make a cartoon cat face out of this?
End of season tired or cold bumblebees have been calling in for an energy top-up....

Ahhhh winter approaches... If the work continues as swiftly as it now seems (from this distance), you may have hope of being into the cabin before it properly sets in! Loved that bee video - and yes, the cat is immediately obvious! YAM xx

  3. i hope you will be spared the heavy weather. You're making such good progress on your house and it would be a shame to have to stop.
The bees are undoubtedly grateful to helpful humans.

  7. You're making encouraging progress! I hope the weather stays good for you. I enjoyed the bee video. Here on the coast of Northern California, the bees have just returned, of course. I love to watch them.

  8. We got the storm but not quite as bad as Welly and Christchurch. The wind and rain was pretty bad here but now we have some days of blue skies.
