I have no right to complain about rain. We have had more than our share of it but it's running off into the sea. My power is off meaning no heating but the temperatures are mild - we just can't attempt to dry clothes and boots. (Continuous 99% humidity has a lot to do with that.)
Meanwhile in other parts of the north of this island people are losing their homes, their livestock, their livelihoods, farms and businesses.
Do a Google search on "flooding NZ" or "flooding tasman marlborough" to get a grasp of the extent of it.
Like the cat (do you know the song about the cat came back - the very next day...?) the dog came back. She has a house (on pole foundations so no risk of flooding) and a family and a fireplace and dog food and....every time I deliver her home she turns up back here an hour or three later.
And it's still raining - 66 hours and counting. I reckon Noah and his crowd would have been at one another's throats by now in a floating caravan with all their farm animals and we are only 3 days into a biblical flood.
I wisht a cute little dog would find its way to my door! That is the only way I would get to have one, Rain here too but not torrential, just cold drizzle. For me not complain worthy but I complain anyway. because this is SUMMER!!
ReplyDelete71 hours and 399mm measured in my rain gauge (I've no idea the true measure as it overflowed one morning) and now we have sunshine. It is like coming g up for air. Wandering around putting things upright again, hanging stuff out to dry, recovering things that floated away on the rising water.
DeleteIs this an usual weather pattern for your part of the world? I hope floods are not your new norm.
ReplyDeleteRain is not unusual - this much rain is (or was before climate change became a thing) a once in 40 years or so.
DeleteThe flooding is awful. It's hard to rebuild after such an event, particularly if it's likely to be repeated quite regularly, and then people can't get insurance, or can't afford it.

ReplyDeleteScully's letting you know that come the Great Wash Out, it's your ark she'd rather be in!!! Sadly, floods are starting to become a bit of a 'norm' in so many places. YAM xx
I am so sorry to hear about the flooding in the area and glad it is not you losing your home. Scully, I LOVE YOU. The fabric Scully is on, is the exact fabric of the first suit I wore to go to the first job I had after highschool. 1962, it had a skirt and a long suit jacket to match, I had red heels that killed my feet, but I wore it to work at age 18.. the photos flipped my memory switch. glad you are safe
ReplyDeleteI've seen the photos of flooding in the NZ Herald. Incredible! Hope the waters stop rising!!
ReplyDeleteYou've got a soul mate there.
