Almost winter solstice. Today is a public holiday in NZ for Matariki (Maori new year). Matariki is the star cluster the Pleiades (or Subaru in Japanese) and makes its reappearance in the morning sky here about this time of year.
Today was, apart from the short daylight hours, a summer's day. Warm, bright, soft warm breeze (that was noticeable even before the sun climbed above the hilltop). The light quality was remarkable. People, animals and plants thrive on days like this.
Nature Friday - bracket fungi dominate the pictures this week.
We took these on a walk a couple of weeks ago - I love the tiny fingernail sized bracket fungi on the manuka stem (3rd photo). I love bracket fungi in any size and shape.

Fungi are endlessly fascinating. We have masses here in our damp garden.
ReplyDeleteSuch a variety of colours and shapes even in one kind of fungus.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sad story from Maori tradition....the stars being the eyes shining down.
I didn't realise the Japanese name....that does explain the logo
Love the mushrooms and we think they are just as pretty as the flowers!
ReplyDeleteFungi are fascinating - so many different shapes, sizes, colours, but the tree fungi are especially interesting, to me, anyway.
