Nature Friday- Webs

On a misty morning the webs had collected droplets of dew.

As I write this we have had 45 hours or relentless rain. It has over-topped the rain gauge 2 mornings in a row (rain gauge is 200mm - 8 inches) and I'm getting worn down by the audio assault of water hitting  the aluminium tin can in which I dwell. My land is between 2 and 4 inches deep in water running off the hillsides above me and the electricity has gone off.

Scully turned up sometime yesterday and I didn't hear her imprecations to be let in over the drumming of rain on metal. (She whimpers - doesn't bark.) I only discovered her hiding under the caravan when I opened the door to retrieve a bucket.

We need a break and this is forecast to go on through tomorrow.

  1. Too much of a good thing! I empathize! Rain here as well but not as intensely. Your land is gorgeous, a small price to pay to live there, I reckon, Poor little bedraggled Scully- a loud barking would be something to practice! I hope the rain eases up !

    1. I wad thinking of you as I wrote it. I imagine your climate is similar to our west coast. I was born in fjordland where the annual rainfall is measured in metres! I hadn't expected it to be like this in the Marlborough Sounds.

Climate change brings all sorts of surprises, welcome or otherwise. I guess there will be some land drainage plans being added to the mix now... YAM xx

  6. Too much rain is just as bad at too little rain
I hope it stops soon and the water runs off quickly

    1. It's easing but not projected to stop for another two days. Noah and his wife must have been at one another's throats by the end of their first week. Imagine being stuck in a floating caravan with all your farm animals (and all your kids and their kids.

  7. That sounds a lot to contend with. I hope it eases soon- or even stops! No fear of a drought any time soon, anyway.
I love seeing bedewed webs, especially when they sparkle in the sun.
Poor Scully - nothing sadder than a drenched, bedraggled little dog.

    1. She seems to love the wet - wants me to take her walking. The animal scents seem to be stronger in and after rain.

  8. We sure hope your rain lets up soon....it seems half the world is getting flooding and the other half is in a drought.

Your webs remind me of our time in Northern California, also a very wet climate filled with shiny morning webs.

    1. I believe some of the flats and drained swampland in other north parts of the island are well under water (I would NEVER build a house on a drained marshland) but ours is still managing to run off everywhere that humans haven't managed to interfere with the natural flow of things.

  9. prayers for your safety and for scully's too, and I am so glad you found her. she could easily drown or get swept away. Lord I ask you to stop the rain and up the land and keep everyone safe from harm.

    1. Thank you. It's free draining here so once the deluge stops the ponds disappear fairly quickly.

  10. Lovely spider web photos. I've been thinking of taking a photo of our giant spider web with a rather large spider pretending to be dead. I hope he's catching lots of mosquitoes

  13. I hope Scully is ok with all the rain, this Winter has definitely been wetter than last year which was mostly Sunny. I hope you haven't had any flooding here, we haven't in Greymouth, just days of rain then sun/cloud.
