Thank You

Thank you to everyone who commented on the last post (did you start to hear a lone bugle player then?). I loved the pink church story. And Yam-Aunty pretty much summed up my philosophy.  I just had to get over myself...

No one died. No one had been injured. No animals were harmed in the making of my mistake. No one went hungry or had to sleep out in the cold... So the colour is a bit red (a lot red, Aussie hardwood red and that's saying something) but as environment goes its the difference between colours redolent of silver tussock (borrowed photos from t'internet) and local soil colours

versus dried bracken

The dry bracken won't be around forever however as my plan was (and remains) to plant up the area in front of our house with silver tussock (Poa cita) and Lancewoods. It is not on my list of ways to spend my dunwerkin time mowing lawns or trimming hedges, so English grasses were never an option.

Try to imagine this next borrowed picture without the green trees background - a view through the lancewoods to distant hills...
Now that's my idea of a low maintenance lawn, but you see why I was annoyed I had red stained the cedar cabin.
I'll find something suitable to take the red out into the landscaping. Red tussocks perhaps...
Chionocloa rubra (and cabbage trees)
...it's probably wet enough here for red tussock to survive.

60mm of rain forecast for tomorrow.  That is not quite 2 and half inches in old measure.

  2. Good planning.

60mm is some rainfall! Hunker down and stay dry rainfall.

  3. we had almost that much rain yesterday and some the day before and with our 5 year drought it was welcome. I love all the trees and grasses you showed and that is what I would have too. nothing that needs mowing. I would love to have the cabin and the RV because when I need to get away from The Man, I could go to my She Shed. ha ha ha

Yes, I love that red tussock! I am so with you - lawns are very overrated in my view! There you are - looking in the 'bright' side! YAM xx

  5. Landscaping around the cabin would soften the edges and blend in with the surroundings.

  6. I'm glad you've made your peace with the red! When you're so engrossed in a big project, you can get a bit carried away. I bet it weathers down nicely and will blend just fine in your landscape.

  7. These things are sent to exercise your creativity . . . and they do!

  8. Your planned garden will blend in well with your environment
A low maintenance garden is a great idea
Aussie red gum definitely told me how red your red is.
Who knows. With the garden your planing it might just be a fortunate
Error and in the end will prove to be the best idea.
