Ennui

F tells me I should learn to knit. Bah humbug.

On Tuesday it rained all day and I spent most of it wrapped in my gold blanket - like a big pasty (I like my head covered too) venting occasional louds sighs.  F scoots me over. I shuffle back. I maintain contact even if her elbows are constantly in motion.

Reading is better because she can do that with one hand and rub my tummy with the other.

Being a big pasty doesn't elicit treats like going for a walk does. Since the 'dog' incidents we have been walking on the steep track that circles round the uphill side of the housing here. It's slippy for humans at the best of times (I'm constantly having to check her progress, especially in downhill mode) but in rain it is probably treacherous for two legs upright.

She should use her front legs but I admit they are useful for dispensing treats.

As I have been practicing posing for photos here are some pictures from our last walk up the hill track. Even when we have frost like knives around the houses it is mild and frost free in the forest.

Moss covered paths

Paths of beech leaves

View towards Mahakipawa Arm of Pelorus Sound

See me checking on her?

Practice pose - the focus is the treat in her other hand

NB (F) - frost like knives must be what it feels like to walk on in bare feet. New frost adjective on me too!

Scully mate... love the forest zoomies! You are aceing that posing palaver and that track looks most inviting... I like that description of frost! Great that you have that lovely yellow blankie to return to (and a cuddly hyoomon!) Hugs and wags YAM-aunty xxx

  2. Moss covered trail must be for the very light footed- not much disturbance. You certainly are the cutest doggy on the trail! I love the image of a pup pastry (wrapped up in gold)

    1. On the rat-trappers use that trail. We go there because we don't expect to meet any German Shepherd dogs.

  3. I would love those beech leaves for mulching my veg and plants. They would also make a good material for paths. Great photos!

    1. I fear the beech leaves would never break down. They seem to be indestructible.

  5. Scully, you have the sweetest face and the most intelligent eyes as well as a great turn of speed.
The mossy paths are beautiful, but could be treacherous when sodden.

    1. That was nothing to the speed I use for chasing rabbits. F says I'll never catch them because I start from too far behind.

  6. Slippery slopes indeed. But treat worthy if you're the protector.
