The weird picture was golden syrup (from a squeezy bottle) into soy sauce. I think it is in a stainless steel bowl. I was making marinade for some pork bones. The rest of the concoction has tomato sauce (to make it thick and stickable) Worcestershire sauce (for a load of spices and some vinegary-ness) and hot chili sauce for extra kick.
Kiwi tomato sauce is very different to UK tomato sauce - it has spices and acidity. I only tried UK tomato sauce once and am of the view is is simply red sugar paste. It has no discernable flavour other than sweetness. Not my bag I'm afraid. I like my sauces saucy.
Okay - no resemblance at all but the colours are there.
Back to today…
So there I am cleaning windows in the dark… Actually the outside light was on and the angle showed up all the dust and pollen; both sides.
Ruru is hooting it's "more pork" call in the trees, somewhere out there Wally Weka is waiting for me to go to bed so he can start rearranging the gardening tools under the caravan (it sounds like someone trying to steal the trailer), and the quails have retired to their 'war room' to plan a raid on the pumpkin seeds I sowed today.
Tomorrow is another day.
I have more pumpkin seeds.
Oh boy, it's a war out there!!
ReplyDeleteIn such circumstances, one has to come to an accommodation with the locals - and you have!
ReplyDeleteCommercial tomato ketchup is very sweet and not something I enjoy.

ReplyDeleteThe golden syrup in soy would pass as a work of art! I know what you mean about the taste of 'matty sauce' up this side - I do miss the proper tomato flavour of the Aussie version. I did find a brand here once that came up to scratch... but of course, I've not been able to find it on the shelves since! YAM xx
