Perhaps it should be entitled Petty Peeve. (Originally entitled Pet Hate - amended on good advice)
Little plastic stickers on fruit. I now live in a country that has banned plastic bags in supermarkets (well sort of - the bags for life are still some kind of plastic, and the fruit and veg that comes ready bagged is in plastic, but to be fair most is loose and you choose your amount and bag it in paper bags or your own reuseables), banned plastic drinking straws, plastic stems in cotton buds, plastic coffee stirrers… all things that actually had uses. However the promoters of these plastic reduction schemes need to stamp on the absolutely pointless little bits of plastic pollutants that come stuck to our fruit. Even if they come off with a fruit skin you discard (oranges, bananas, avocados) I still have to pick away at them so I don't end up with plastic contaminants in my compost heaps/garden.Vegetables don't get stickered. Why do we need a label to tell the round orange thing is an orange?
And there is no way that tiny rubbish is recyclable; a complete waste of the planet's resources.
There. I've got that off my chest. Rant over. I think I'll go and eat a carrot.

ReplyDeleteI'm so with you on this one... YAM xx
Maybe I will start the Pointless Campaign - the fight against pointless labelling
DeleteI do so absolutely agree with you on this one. Not just the inconvenience of picking them off before composting them but the stupid waste of resources making them then having to dispose of them. Grrrr...
ReplyDeleteWell exactly. The jobs and materials could be better employed on something that advances mankind.
DeleteIt does tell them which orange....
ReplyDeleteI think it is ironic that organic produce is bagged....but there is a move to gradually use recyclable paper for that....and the disadvantage there is that you don't see what you are getting
So have it all loose in returnable boxes - like they used to.
DeleteIn a traditional greengrocers...with staff.....
DeleteOr a Greek laiki.
DeleteI agree.
ReplyDeletePet Peeve is what we call that, and you scared me because I thought my precious Scully had done something wrong again... never thought about the stickers until NOW..
ReplyDeleteYou are right - I'll change the ritle - yours is much better
DeleteTotally agree! Grrrr . . .
ReplyDeleteIt has been an issue with me, and my daughter for years.
ReplyDeleteI think she was about ten or eleven when she called out. Very loudly, that we didn’t need a sticker to tell us it’s an apple. We are not stupid
I was kinda proud of her
Yes! I agree. there is still so much plastic that we can do without.
