This giant is a remnant from the days when the forests in this bay were dominated by lowland podocarps (native pine) - Rimu, Totara, Matai and Miro. My outstretched arms cannot even reach across its width. I might be able to hug a quarter of its girth. It is wrapped by the roots of Southern Rata and Marlborough broadleaf.
Don't you just love the stripes?
Native palm tree (Nikau)
Vantage point. Scully and I enjoyed a few wind-down half hours contemplating the bay from here.

I just love that image of the dead tree on the water's edge. Starkly artistic.
ReplyDeletethe 2nd photo, I would love to have that view out my door or a mural of the photo on an entire wall of the living room. the old tree is fabulous and the most loved is the palm next. a lot of this looks like our swamp land here in Florida
