Lovely! It's a meditative pastime, both to do and to watch! YAM xx

  2. Abalone up here is now forbidden to harvest. We used to go out in the sound , Dennis would dive for abalone and come up with two large ones which he did pound the hell out of and fried in butter on the boat. The days that I thought would last forever. I only have the shells as remembrance. That shore line is spectacular! LOVE the stones! I hope that you managed to take the wood with you.

    1. Abalone are very limited here and inaccessible to most people on the mainland. Being able to collect them without getting your feet wet is unheard of on the mainland in over 50 years.

    1. We just reel it up. We didn't catch anything of any significant size. Paua shells are one of nature's great beauties.

    love those rocks....

just read your comment on Fresca's blog.
The friend we stayed with in Tai Tapu had his post delivered to his delivery box at the local village store/café. They covered quite a large area. Has his own key, collects it when passing..or when he feels like it!

    1. Black abalone - what a mess to bash and slice up. We have a PO Box but you wouldn't believe the number of businesses that wont deliver to a po box. They would however deliver to an address which is simply an open to anyone box by the side of the road 10km from us. About 30 local residents have the same open packing crate as an address and it is passed daily by dozens of contractors, tourists, people looking for fishing spots, farm hands, folk who are lost, and chancers.
Taitap on the other hand is still a special part of the country.
