Gorse Knife

Old fashioned but effective.  Runs on porridge. No high tech circuitry. One power setting. Can be serviced with a file (no fancy tool kit required). And takes up virtually no space in the shed.

Bracken:
No bracken:
Pile of bracken (and blackberry and gorse):
I'm covered in rusty brown dust (which I guess is bracken spores) made into brown glue by sunscreen and sweat. That dust doesn't half make me cough.

The supervisor declines to keep the coffee cup topped up but has been pointing out where the sticks are still a bit long.
We'll go out on the water later. It's a calm hot day that started as a calm overcast day, Mr B has gone fishing, and kayaking is just calling out to us again (like the loud ratcheting of the cicadas).
oh and by the way - here is how El Greco is doing on its first year in the garden

    1. Scully wanted to swim when we beached and as it was dead calm I let her off the vest (it doubles as my back support when she refuses to be dressed in it.)

  3. Such a fine sunny sensible life there in the land of beauty and bracken! You could probably market the pollen/seed sweat rust- as Natural organic blemish concealer. $20,000 for one half ounce. Pretty sure it would be a hit!

    1. I love the way the old handles are worn smooth and satiny from use. My mattock has a fabulous handle.

    1. jumped in water to wash off the crud and met the fishers coming back. Mr B came home with a big bag of cleaned filleted fish (fillets got frozen separately which makes meals easy for a while)

    1. i hope eventually to preserve enough table olives to keep us supplied all year each year but oil here will never compare to Greek olive oil.

  7. I love having frozen fish fillets available, they thaw quickly and are an easy meal. that is a LOT OF B RACKEN you cleared all by yourself. I am impressed. I have a lot of work to do in our back yard, but not the energy you possess. I have to do mine a little at a time.. I am always impressed by your work, builder of sheds and cabins, property clearer, mechanic, restore old RV, swimming, poling the paddle board, the list is long
