Pink

F's bro came to visit a couple of weeks back and brought with him my new BFF - Wee Jock.  It took us a while to size each other up (same size) and we were each protective of our respective homes on wheels and the area around them, but by the time he left we were playing chasing and I was showing him the best places to find rabbits and possums.

In fact F took us for walks and although he looks like a sop, Wee Jock was doing more hunting in the bushes than I was. (I come back when F whistled, Wee Jock pushed the boundaries!)

Here he is demonstrating how to get dry after swimming
I went swimming in the sea yesterday and it turned me pink. F made me fetch my 'puppy' from the fresh-water pond a few times to make me white again but the top of my head stayed pink.

Algae?

F wonders if it might be the same zoo plankton that glows in the dark in our bay at present. She has been going kayaking in the dark (without me - I'm all tucked up in bed with my Mum by then) just to enjoy the fairy lights from her paddle puddles and the glowing light on her bow-wave.

Bioluminescence.

Big word. Glowy living stuff. Possibly pink when applied to a white dog.

  1. Wow. It would look amazing, glowing in the dark
I wouldn’t mind a pink dog, but I am happy with my red head and my black and white ones

    1. It washes off. Pink rinse. I might have looked like a hydrangea.

  2. I see you're being battered by storms now. Hope your travel to the Chathams is not affected. Give my regards to any Bauckes there. They're, all very very distant relatives.

  3. You’re not supposed to lead visitors astray Scully. Hopefully Wee Jock forgave you….sounds like a quick learner as well.
We’ll have to start calling you Lily the Pink if you keep taking dips in the sea.

    1. It wasnt Wee Jock that needed to do the forgiving. F was getting a bit cross at him for ignoring the 'come hither' commands.

Scully, what fun to have made a new chum. Wee Jock would have been in his own kind of heaven, too. And what's this? Are you channelling your inner flamingo??? How lovely for F to see all that flowy-glowy, though. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  6. Our glow stuff at the gulf of MEXICO, no matter what HE calls it, is like silver, the wave tips glow with it. just not pink, but I don't think it gets on any one or any dog, at least I have never seen it do that. Odd. So happy you and Wee Jock got a long and now you have long distant cousins who can come and visit .

  7. a glow in the dark dog is far better than a green one..whether from algae ( not good for dogs or humans) or freshly cut grass

    1. I think the glow-in-the dark things are zoo-plankton. Noctoluma or something like that.

  8. I've seen pink water before, when we lived in the north island, yes something to do with algae and warm temperatures, hope you haven't been hit with the storm that's going through Christchurch and that side right now.
