Scully : I'm not really miserable; it's just that my head gets heavy and small boats aren't terrifically comfortable. Usually I hang my head over the side - especially on the paddleboard - but this orange boat is new to me so we were still working out the best place for me. It has three seats. F gets the back seat. In these pictures Im trying out the little middle seat so that I can lean on F's legs. She later shovelled me into the 'forward hold' but I chose to sit so I was facing her with a pained look in my eyes.
Anything, even plastic orange boats and a red jacket, is better than being left behind.
We did see a large flock of Royal Spoonbills - F said we would avoid disturbing them. That is contrary to terrier nature but I stayed calm on request.
F was trying to use a 'new to her' waterproof camera but hadn't read the instructions. We ended up drifting back further than we had paddled up before I heard "Ahhhh" - which (along with resumed paddling) made me think she had worked out some basic function (like how to take a photo).
She thought you just press 'on', point it, and press the big button on top. (It turns out there is an online instruction manual of several hundred pages - guaranteed to induce sleep for the insomniacs among you - and some very complicated combinations of button pressing to achieve the desired 'point and shoot' function. She needed it - everytime she pointed the camera, the kayak would start a graceful but fairly speedy pirouette.)
We also got within a bull's roar (terrier's bark) of some blue herons. They are usually well away before we can photograph them. The low tide had exposed an extra large amount of mud today and both kinds of birds were digging about for tasty morsels.

Never a dull moment eh Scully.
ReplyDeleteShame on F for not bringing a nice soft blanket for you to lounge around on while you’re sizing up the local feathered friends
Scully, you are a lucky dog, really living the good life.
ReplyDeleteThat is a swell day for a pooch! orange is good, that way you can be seen if you tumble. The birds look like they need a good barking at- they are far too content.
