Start of house-build is finally within reach. Last Thursday the surveyor and builder were both out here discussing placement. Mr B had decided he was having a motorcycling day, bike loaded into van and he was off out of here leaving me to make decisions about view and light and distance from fences and whether there was enough space in the drive for doing three-point turns (surely that depends on the size of whatever you are driving, and how tight its turning circle. I don't need to cater for 3-point turning juggernauts. With fuel the price as it is everyone will be riding bicycles in a month or two.)
The best part of start of house-build is that the sewage extraction system goes in first and we might then have a flush toilet for first time in about 18 months. Neighbours (M&F) live the same deprivations and have promised a celebration of 'THE FLUSH'.
First world problem.
It won't be anything fancy - a building the size of a telephone box parked directly on top of the septic tank so that we and the builders have a 'convenience'.

How many words (in English) are there for a toilet, and why are we so squeamish about naming it?
Loo, Water Closet (WC), Privy, Outhouse, Dunny, Powder room, cloakroom, bathroom, lav, lavatory, (from latin for to wash), latrine, the heads.... How many of these a related to washing generally rather than bowel and bladder motions (deballasting, pumping bilges) specifically?
On that scatological note, have a great day.

Down here some oldies say they’re going to the toot.
ReplyDeleteThings’ll be moving soon…..in more senses than one!

ReplyDeleteOh my, convenience! Such a basic need... YAM xx
Great news on the house. Even better on the 'flush.'
ReplyDeleteIn my plumber's vocabulary a lavatory is a washbasin. Probably more accurate.
ReplyDeleteYour new one will be flusher box, commode container, go, flush and go, both the outhouse and the flushable can both be called, getter done.
ReplyDeletecongrats on being a step neared to a house and a flusher thingy
Moving right along! I love that you do that- I have been waiting 39 years for a fence!
ReplyDeleteUmm - now, about a fence...
DeleteI saw a knitted fence somewhere a while ago. Must have been hard work - looked thin rope knitted on something about as thick as an arm. Nice lace pattern tho - and very even tension🤣
DeleteI do'nt know how society would ever function without flushing toilets, they really are the best invention. Have a good week.
ReplyDeletethere used to be "going to see a man about a dog"....when betting was illegal and done in the pub toilets....
