Sunburst

of a dinghy trapeze
Mr B has added a sailing dinghy to his stable of toys.  He spent Easter Sunday rigging it (a few things needed to be fixed) and I was promised/threatened with dinghy sailing the following day.  Fortunately it is a very forgiving looking dinghy and I would not have to spend the day hanging out over the side on a trapeze.

It is a Sunburst dinghy - a class known only in New Zealand.  It is looking very pretty in pale blue (Aden Blue) and Oyster White livery.  Hopefully there are no clubs with racing fleets of Sunbursts within a long drive of here as I don't fancy taking up dinghy racing at this stage in my sailing career.  As a sport it is wet, tends to be cold, and has tedious courses (as in: up/down between a couple of buoys with a third thrown in to make triangles from time to time).  I prefer the kind of sailing/racing where the view changes, you never have to see the same race mark twice, and they are decent distances apart (allowing for tea and sandwiches between launching and recovering the spinnaker).

  1. I believe we did say ‘buy him a boat’ and he’ll be happy. So good to see he’s now got something to help settle him. Is he able to crew it himself or does he need ‘a mate’….or is that only for racing. Can’t you tell I’m not one to go on the water unless it’s in a big ship with people that will look after me. As in cook clean wash entertain 😊

    1. He bought his own boat. His motorbike has arrived. His new ute is next week (Diesel prices through the roof make that purchase a questionable one but it was ordered late January), and he bought himself a smarter kayak which we picked up a couple of days ago. He should be ecstatic!

    2. oh and yes I have to crew on the dinghy. Racing is (until further notice) out of the question. Im beginning to see the attraction in your version of sea-going.

  2. Love the name of the boat, well done Mr B on finding this one. To answer your question; yes I have been to the Hokitika driftwood festival a couple of times now.
