Concrete Day

My alarm buzzed at 0500. We had been warned they turn up early.

Pumping truck arrived in the dark - before 0615 this morning.

First concrete mixer truck arrived about 0700.

Rain started about 0715.

Rain stopped about an hour later and a friend messaged to point out the frosting of 'snow' on the hill above us.

Yes, some of the concrete workers were wearing shorts.

Hills to the south had distinct snowy caps.

7 truck loads (34 cubic metres) had been pumped by 10am and Mr B started feeding the crowd on barbequed meat while they waited for the concrete to 'go off' so I took Scully for a walk to keep her out of the way (of both wet cement and barbequed meat).

By the time we got back, the sun had risen above the hill and the clouds had scudded away. Talk about 4 seasons in one day! By then the crowd had fed and fled leaving 2 finishers who had to hang around all day polishing the drying surface of the concrete slabs.

Fortunately it was warm by then and I spent the day sitting about doing some mending, some knitting, and some yarn dying (and mainly keeping Scully's curiosity engaged in anything other than wet cement).  I kept feeling I'd overlooked some important task, missed a deadline, or forgotten to tun up for an appointment. Why do some days feel like that?

At day-end we have two 'dance floors'.
..with a few minor obstacles

Frames will start arriving next week.
