Nature Friday

Sunshine changes things. I fell out of love with Blogger for a while. Deep breath in. I missed the interaction, the windows on other worlds

Life here seems to have become very small. All focus is on the house build. Today some of the house roof is going on.

The seasons have turned a corner. Orion appears in our night sky again - above our sunrise horizon just before the sky lights up. As we advance on this turn around the sun, Orion will start each night higher in the sky than on the previous until his final appearance on our sunset horizon heralds the onset of another Winter.

Walking back from the jetty last week we were assailed by a strong scent. I traced it to a flowering acacia

  1. Welcome back. I thought it was something I had said 🤔
Our season has definitely turned with temperatures fallen by 10°C and that crisp autumnal feel to the air. We are already sweeping fallen leaves from our front porch every day and the wind is picking up to its autumn gale strength from time to time.
I do love the change of seasons.

    1. Never something YOU said JC - just a mountain of lethargy with a snowcap of panic-induced-indecision. I retreat into knitting and digging holes. I've run out of useful holes to dig so waited until boredom suggested I create a blog post. LLB's Nature Friday never demands philosophy, humour, or introspection - just a post with some views on nature. Always a good place to restart.

  2. Sometimes you just have to focus. Good to hear of house progress.

I've only once been in Blenheim at the right time to smell Acacia..in 2012..but the honey brings good memories

    1. There are bees 25metres away (commercial hives on the neighbour's place); the objective out here being manuka honey. They (the bees) have no doubt also sampled the acacia around the place too. It's good honey.

I kept checking to see if I had missed a post, but no... you'd just been taking a break. Fair enough, but it's lovely to have you back with us! Funny you should mention Orion, because I was looking at 'him' the other night and thinking of how I used to love the Antiopdean version of the constellation, and that the opposite of what you describe is happing here at the 'top end'... YAM xx

    1. When you know its Orion, he's doing a head stand in the southern hemisphere. Most people here only recognise his belt and sword and call it The Pot.

  4. The acacia is so beautiful and I would love to breathe in its scent!

    1. It wasn't the most beautiful scent (that might be frangipani or boronia) but it wasn't ugly either - it was sort of dense. Your nose would not have needed quite so much of it Duke.

  5. We all get like that at times.
A break always helps I think.
    The flower looks amazing.

    1. Thank you Damselfly - Scully is doing fine. It's school holudays here so she has sisters and grandparents to keep her engaged during the days but she still turns up for porridge and walks.
