I promised this early on didn’t I? Birdfeeders and squirrels; they seem to be inseparable.
Mr B and F put out seeds, and peanuts, and fat balls, and suet pellets, and meal worms, and other seeds, and special food for robins, and ……..
Squirrels eat seeds, and peanuts, and fat balls, and suet pellets, and …………….and…and I’m not sure about the meal worms.
Originally we had a pole with feeders in the front and one at the back. The one at the front only lasted a week or so. Mr B has got photos of a squirrel emptying the seed reservoir. He (the squirrel) had shinned up that skinny little pole with no hand holds or places to put your feet. Cheeky blighter.
Putting the pole in the backyard makes no difference to the squirrel but by that time the big green hats had arrived. The pole goes through the big green hat, and it stops squirrels climbing up. The big green hats also tilt and spin around throwing any squirrel, silly enough to try, off onto the ground. The only problem with the big green hats is that the wind gets under them lifting them up the poles, and knocking all the seed reservoirs onto the garden. That makes things even easier for the squirrels.
Less wind gusts through the backyard , and moving the front yard pole out there means I don’t have to dash from front to back to keep both poles under surveillance.
Now I can watch the wood pigeons emptying the bird-feeders instead. Wood pigeons are birds aren’t they?
