Compost - developments

I have no idea what it is with F and compost but even here, in an apartment several storeys above the ground, she has devised a composting system for the fruit and veg scraps, tea bags and coffee grounds, and the sifted sawdust from my toilet tray (see my blog on 3/12/19)

We have 4 silver-grey buckets (with lids).  Every morning she lifts the lids and stirs the contents with a garden trowel.  Every week my sawdust goes into an empty bucket, and the saved fruit peels & veg off-cuts get mangled to pulp in a food processor and stirred into the sawdust.  Over the course of the week that bucket also gets all the used coffee grounds and tea-bags from F's work.
Composting the cat (it warms up) - even the old fur from my brush goes into this mix.

At the end of the week the oldest mix (by now in bucket 4 and looking like soil) either gets used for pot plants on the balcony or is spread on the community garden below.  With one empty bucket at the end of the row, all the buckets get emptied into the next one along the row and the process starts again in bucket #1.

Between bucket #1 and bucket #4 that mix gets hot, goes through various stages of smell (a couple of days of which has hints of ammonia if you are up close with the lid off and she's stirring it) and as the weather has cooled, attracts tiny flies if left open (hence the lids).

The garden where it gets spread had lots of flowers this summer and autumn.
