One beach
visit evening just before sunset, we were ambushed by 1000’s of huge
dragonflies. They appeared suddenly
seemingly out of that wild acacia and filled the air for less than an hour
moving about like mini military helicopters; then they disappeared again as
quickly as they had appeared, as the sun set.
We might have overstayed that evening; F finds it difficult to scramble
back up the rocky path in the dark, but the dragonflies were pretty
special. F got double measure of
wild-life that evening, getting low-level strafed by Batty Bat and friends who flicked
past as she picked our way back through the acacia.
We
sometimes see Batty Bat and friends from the balcony, darting about over the
acacia surrounding the inlet just as the sun goes down. Bats seem to be one of the few things that
this place has in common with our backyard in Havant and both F & Mr B get
excited and happy when they see the bats.
(Captain Beaky’s friends were Timid Toad, Reckless Rat, Artful Owl, and Batty Bat; and if you are curious you can find
