F's gone swimming. She never takes me to the beach when she goes swimming, but I can watch her from my condo. She's easy to spot: she's the only one with long legs on her swimming coat.
Humans have lots of coats. I make do with one, stylish, fur coat. It's not great for swimming in I admit, and I go to great lengths to avoid swimming, but I might just sit among the rocks and watch... might. F says we can go to the beach together at the end of the day, watch a sunset and do some rubbish collecting.
I've watched her do a lap of the inlet. Things are almost back to normal out there; umbrellas are pitched on the rocks and people are swimming with hats on. The rafts of debris disappeared overnight - maybe we will be picking them off the beach this evening - and water looks nice and clear and blue again. Yesterday it looked pale: aerated or silted.
Sun is sparkling off the ripples.
When F gets out of the water she's got yet another coat. It looks like something out of Starwars with a great big hood on it. All the other humans I can see like sun on their bare skin, they are basking on the rocks like lizards.
Lizards - now there's something to look forward to this evening - lizard spotting. I love that. It's almost as good a lying in wait for the mice that lived in the compost bin under our apple tree.
Capers are flowering again. Pretty flowers on the beach. She's gone and lost the photo... Get me a new secretary

ReplyDeleteGood help is hard to find, eh, Tigger?! Still, you painted a fine scene with your description and that will do us nicely! Hugs and whiskeries, YAM-aunty xxx
I love watching the lizards who come out on our walls at night, They are excellent hunters and in the silence (if we do not have to listen to gr music) I can hear their squeaking noises.
ReplyDeleteI don't think our capers are flowering yet. There are several wild plants at the top of the road.
Too early for me to swim too but I am thinking about it
Lizards squeak? Maybe I am going deaf. F loves lizards, geckos, lizard shaped stuff. She probably wouldn't let me keep it if I did manage to catch one. They are pretty quick.
ReplyDeleteWhat is that other herb that grows on the beach that we sometimes get pickled in Greek salad? Raw it tastes a bit like samphire.
The herb again. Kritamo?? I'm really not sure.
DeleteI love the way on Agistri they put caper leaves on their salads. We brought back a jar of pickled leaves. You've have made me want to go and have a look at our caper plants. I'll see if I can harvest any of the seeds and buds.
I've googled a picture - definitely kritamo. Tastes quite nice raw.
DeleteThey make a high pitched squeak . We have one in our bedroom which drives my husband mad with the noise. I hardly notice it. You do need silence to hear it
ReplyDeleteNever silent here!
DeleteThe herb... Maybe it's garbia. This is a Horta which grows near the sea, often on rocks beside it.
ReplyDeleteI have never tasted it myself. Down in Crete there is a similar one called stamnagathia.
